Marginalia

Writing in the margins, notes or embellishments

Embellishments on books are as old as the books themselves. People have been embellishing the margins of books for as long as they have been around. Making books not just a carrier of knowledge but also a piece of art.

I think the margins are the most interesting. The margins are where the words on the page grow. Where people may note their questions to be answered later, definitions to look up or ideas to explore. The margins are my specialty. The defined, undefined spaces where art and science meld.

Margin-al Gains

Unlocking potential and building better organizations

I assist organizations to organize, and improve their performance and effectiveness. The videos below are some examples of recent work. The presentations were created as part of the Roosevelt University Master of Arts in Organizational Development program. These are real world interventions I have led or been a part of. There are a few other presentations I include so you can get a full picture of me.

I invite you to explore the videos below and gain a better understanding of my approach, abilities, and the value I can bring to organizations from the margins

My Values

Melding the science of behavior and the art of leadership

Humanistic Design

Buckminster Fuller said, “Give them [people] a tool to use which will lead to new ways of thinking”. I believe people are at the center of all change and must be considered in the design in order for it to be successful.

Continuous Improvement

A true life-long learner. I adapt to new processes, applications, and technology quickly. I love helping others see and reach their potential. Learning and improvement are intrinsically linked and lead to system and process improvements.

Cross-Functional Relationships

I strive to build authentic relationships. Relationships support all aspects of change from strategizing to project management.

Say, Show, Suceed

Personal Coaching Model. Designed during the last two courses in my Masters program.

Closing out the program with my passion, building capacity in people and organizations. Pulling from my individual development plan, one of the areas I wanted to grow was in technical knowledge. Having developed my leadership and coaching style over 15 plus years I found it to be instinctual, a goal of
mine was to put technique behind instinct. My coaching model “Say, Show, Succeed” merges experiential knowledge with the technical. In this presentation and narrative, I dive into my background as a coach, and my non-directive, collaborative coaching style. Expanding on the principles behind that style, Andragogy, Merrill’s principles of adult learning, and Whitmore’s G.R.O.W. model. I also explore assessments I have used or would use, like the iMap Disc-style assessment, and Clifton Strengths. Also touching on opportunities for growth, and clientele. I feel this coaching model is another example of my
passion and what skills and abilities I will bring to an organization.

PTO 2022 and Beyond

Process consulting to assess, improve, and re-structure an organization to better serve the community.

This is an overview of a strategic intervention I designed, developed, and facilitated, to help a volunteer organization redefine their role in an evolving community. I utilized Weisbord’s 6-box for diagnosis, Orr’s Change Method selection tool, and modified Future Search for strategic planning. Incorporating Serious Play techniques through “Gamestorming” and becoming well-educated on a variety
of change methodologies through “The Change Handbook”. I created an intervention from inception through goal achievement and everything in between. Setting goals and, upon completion of the intervention, seeing those goals achieved. As a part of the community this organization serves, it is
incredibly fulfilling to see this work in action nearly every day.

School Facilities Master Plan

Process consulting developing a long-term plan for the facilities upkeep and updating to meet the current and future needs.

The beginning of a facilities master plan project in my local school district
coincided with a course in my Masters program. That is the subject of this presentation. Which reviews the context behind the survey, instrument development, results, and recommended actions. This exhibit showcases my approach to problem solving, ability to
analyze data, and turn it into actionable insights that support efficient and effective decision making. This process found me
pulling from Weisbord’s 6-box, Catherine Jarrett’s “Survey’s that Work” book, and utilizing Qualtrics for data analysis. Touching on all five categories in the OD network Global Competency Framework. Systems change, efficient design, business advisor, credible strategist, and informed consultant. This was only the beginning however, the work that was started here
continues to this day.
